Improv Theme & Variation with Denyse & Richard
A single block pattern can yield an infinite number of variations. In this workshop, we’ll use improvisational patchwork to explore repetitions and variations on a theme. You'll learn about the principles of design and how to work with them in your quilt making process. You’ll work toward building your own quilt top and receive guidance in planning, exploring, and developing your own design and color story. You won't go home with a finished quilt (or maybe you will!) – but you will build confidence in your individual patchwork “voice” with Denyse's motivational techniques.
$375 includes tuition, lunch, and goodie bag.

What You Need to Bring
• Bring a favorite traditional or original block pattern to work with. See our Workshop Info PDF for more details.
• You’ll need a total of about 3-6 yards for this workshop, based on your preference for working large or small, and how fast (or slow) you typically work. This total should include mostly solids, supplemented with prints and/or yarn-dye chambrays and wovens in a variety of values and hues. Your overall fabric palette should be simple and will be determined by the composition of the block you are bringing and your desired overall color feeling. For instance,if your selected block has 4 different parts or 4 main colors that create the theme, build on this palette by gathering a range of fabrics that are variations of those of those colors or values. Add a few surprise fabrics for the fun of it!
• If you prefer to bring your own sewing machine and tools, please feel free to do so – just let us know in advance and plan to arrive one-half hour early to set up your machine.
Whether you are traveling from afar or from just down the road, we've put together some information [pdf] to make getting here easier, and to help you plan an entire weekend in the area.
